Considering boomeranging back to G after recent events... or going to Citadel. The new team at G would be really good in AI, just no room for L6 any time soon. Concerned about WLB and constantly looking over my shoulder at Citadel. Numbers approx based on conversations, should get the verbal offer soon. EDIT: Always loved Google, but 2023 has been a rough year. Really just want to focus on doing good work and not competing against the person sitting next to me. YoE: <7
What team at citadel?
I don't know whatever abbreviation people like to use, but it should be somewhere within equities.
Equities Quant Research? (EQR)
Note that some portion of your citadel comp will be deferred over the next couple of years — $675k is not your take home cash year 1
It's like 20% of total right?
My understanding is that it’s not a fixed percentage but I don’t know what the deferral policy is right now — you should check your documents or as your recruiter
Once again blind picking with their feet on TC. How much do you value interesting work and quality of life? The whole "competing against the person sitting next to me" thing will likely be amplified at Citadel since the people there will likely be more driven and grind more. Also do keep in mind that Citadel has a deferred bonus structure for bonus anounts over $XXXk, and I think your offer is above that threshold. So I'd ask yourself does the additional dollar you get at Citadel make it worth the additional stress? If you need/want the money and can handle a bit of stress and chaos, then go for it. Otherwise Google might be better, also slightly lower cost of living too so the post-tax difference in TC might not be as bad. I was at a trading firm previously (hft, not asset management like Citadel HF) and I'd probably go to a Google AI team over Citadel. AI is pretty hot right now too so you can parlay that experience into something even more interesting/lucrative.
This is a good take — citadel has the very high likelihood of burning people out like it did me — made $625k in my last year and couldn’t do it anymore
Also pretty sure it’s NYC right? So cost of living and taxes vs no income tax in Seattle is another factor.
How’s the interview like for Citadel? Congratulations OP! Great problem at hand
Very pragmatic approach, and positive experience. Strong focus on good (working) code and not very heavy on optimality.
Congrats, good bump
Money always win any poll.
What's the growth opportunity at citadel looking like? Google vesting schedule and no room for growth means it may be hard to maintain that comp into the 3rd year and beyond. But base and bonus are really good for L5.
What domain in citadel earns that much? Is it just swe?
“Really just want to focus on doing good work and not competing against the person sitting next to me.” How is Citadel even an option then?
lol indeed
Opposite. For doing good work, G is not even an option.

Wait aren't you at G already. And that base is strong for Seattle. How many rounds of negotiation did it take. Also I voted for citadel.
Some high up "took responsibility" for my team and here I am. I had previous VP approved increases to comp that accelerated it. No negotiating really for either. But I get the feeling both are inflexible.
Sorry to hear that. Are you still in your 60 day period from the google notice or currently working elsewhere. Is this an entirely new GSU grant and base? How do they compare to your pre RIF/layoff TC. Did you have to reintervieww at G?
