I was just curious on the google interview process once onsite is completed. I heard that all feedback goes to a hiring committee which makes a final decision. 1. Assuming 3 people go onsite, the hiring manager cannot decide who he/she finds best and wants to hire? 2. The relative performance is extremely important as I think the interviewee feedback would be compared too. I think this is unlike Amazon where they claim that each person who comes onsite is interviewed independently. So even if the position is filled by the time candidate comes onsite, they will consider him for another position if the candidate meets hiring bar. JC
If this is for engineering, then I believe team matching happens after HC so don’t worry about the relative comparison part.
I’ve heard team match now happens before HC because positions are so limited now
That’s possible. I just went through t in December but I’m going to hiring committee without having gone through team match
I’m doing team match right now. In my case, there was no comparing candidates; team match is/was after hiring committee, which my recruiter says is the standard practice. Also, one potential colleague I met with said he had the exact same process last year. This is in NYC, and it wouldn’t surprise me if there were some exceptions in some product areas/teams, but the HC-first is Google’s norm.
One question, after you pass the onsites, are there any more steps on the candidate's side? I.e. do they do more rounds of interviews if you pass the onsites (i.e recruiter says the team wants to move forward to next steps after onsites)
Do they send all the candidates through HC? Or only if recruiter feels that there is a mixed feedback and need more review? I mean to ask if 4 out of 5 interviews were negative then do they send it to HC? Or the recruiter can reject immediately?
Google don't compare. They have a bar and if you pass the bar you pass the hiring committee. That does not mean you are hired. After you passed the hiring committee you will need to do a team match. Managers with opening will contact you and if you both think it will be a good fit then you are almost hired, pending VP approval.
Mine is for an analyst role for a specific team. I already had a telephonic interview with the hiring manager. Maybe it’s different as compared to Software Engineers.
