Two offers: google senior and twitter staff. both tc are same. 450k. twitter can go slightly higher. which one would you pick? I’m inclined towards Twitter for career progression. But not sure about growth and quality. Any comments from experienced people? current tc: 650k, 10 yoe (but Stripe sucks as hell, that’s a different topic altogether)
Can you share google offer distribution. I found twitter to be chilled out but quality of people is better at Google.
Stay at Stripe... If not come to FB. I think we can give you 250k base on E6 offer with 20% bonus so that's 300k Plus another $1.4M stock that's vesting over 4 years to make it worth 350k per annum to complete the TC 650k
Just to make sure there’s no typo: your current TC is 650K and you are moving to a job with TC 450K. Correct?
That’s correct. I’d rather be at a place with good work rather than chasing money with no satisfaction in my work.
650 includes paper money as well? Stripe isn’t public
Curious to know why you think stripe is so bad? Can't be worse than Google can it? Especially with that TC.
Even I'm really curious about the same!
Lack of interesting and large-scope projects. If you’re ok with integrating with different banking partners day and night, you’ll be fine. International expansion = lot of insane soul-sucking integrations. That’s just the kind of work there is. I don’t enjoy it. Someone else might if all they care about is future money. Plus, tech is shittiest I’ve seen in the whole industry. Who uses ruby! Each bank is a different business logic with its own loopholes and it’s structured so poorly. Overall, it’s not a company it portrays to be. Lot of super smart and talented people leave very soon. Part of it is that the whole payments industry is still legacy code. My advice would be to stay away. There are more fun and better opportunities out there.
Obviously Google over Twitter, no comparison whatsoever.
Why are you leaving stripe? Seems to be the next big thing
A lot of people join stripe thinking that and leave within some time.
Isn’t stripe going to IPO soon though? Seems like it’d better to change teams within Stripe to get what you want? I read your other comment about why you don’t like Stripe. But feel like it could be solved by switching teams
External hired staff aren't respected at Twitter, stay away
Is Stripe hiring for similar roles? Soul sucking integrations is what I live for.
Why not switch teams? Maybe to somewhere within foundation?

Both will feel slow and bureaucratic. Staff is a level being given out like candy now at twitter. I wouldn’t expect a ton of growth or anything but google your scope will likely be microscopic. Great WLB at both.
Not true about staff. Most staff have been around 5+ years so they’ve put in the time and work. Goog staff is harder though.
Bar for Staff has definitely gone down quite a bit. Know multiple people getting it after 5 years out of college
