Never give the first number! Tell them you’re looking for a growth opportunity and you’d be more comfortable discussing compensation once you meet the team. Giving them a number means giving up all leverage in the negotiation.
L3 ask for 250k.. agree for 220k L4 ask for 350k agree for 300k
Don’t give them a number. Just tell your recruiter that you haven’t thought of a number and you’re more concerned about the work you’d get to do. If they force you to, ask them for a range and tell them you’ll have to do some research and you’ll get back in sometime, and in the meanwhile you want to schedule interviews.
