I’ve passed the on-site loop and team selection and will receive offer from google seattle next week. I have a stock vest in amazon on July 15. My question is, once I get the google offer can I delay my start date all the way to mid July? Recruiter told me initially the offer (if I got one) was good for 3 months. But has anyone actually extended their start date that long? And also if I go that route and accept the offer, obviously would wait to share with my current manager until the vest happens, but that will be a weird 3 months of working with no vested interest in the business I’m working on. Any tips for that?
How did you prepare for the interview? Congratulations on the offer? Recruiter told me the same. You can start 3 months from the time of offer.
I would like to know that please. I am in same boat. But have given myself a long time frame to be prepared by year end. Any pointers help
I talked with about 5-10 different recruiters over the course of 3-4 months. Had 5-7 phone screens and 3 onsite full loops. Rejected for 2 and offered for google. I think the main reason (IMO) for not getting the offers from other two was showing a lack of interest in the company. Was really doing them for practice and I think it came out in my interviews. So advice, research the company and really show interest in their charter. As for prep, the usually leetcode. I’m also an SDET and looking for those roles so questions around how to test a large system are part of it. For me that part is natural since I do it every day and had to study more on coding questions.
First of all Congratulations! Yeah! I took almost 3 months after matching with the team. My manager was awesome and super supportive. They know that with the limited vacation days engineers have while working, in between jobs is the only time you get big blocks of vacation. Go see the world. You won't regret it.
Ah that’s great to hear! I’ll probably end up taking as much time as I can before starting.
Congrats! The offer is good, but you also need to work more closely with the recruiter and have them mention your start date upfront to the teams. Nothing worse than having a great match, but then finding out the manager needs someone now and not in three months. Another thing you can do is negotiate a bonus or stock bump to compensate for losing your Amazon vest by leaving sooner.
When they say the offer is good for X months, doesn't that mean that you have X months to respond? You can negotiate your exact start date beyond that if you wanted.

During this 3 months, take time off as much as possible like use all your vacations and other excuses to stay away from work and enjoy/recharge your self..! Don’t break the bridges. Good luck. 🍀
