I cleared all my interviews for Google TPM ladder. The recruiter called in 10 days that i have got primarily positive feedback and approved for L5/6 TPM. He said the new process is to go through team matching before going to HC. It been 4 months and i am just stuck in this team matching hell. The first team we didn’t like mutually. Second HM said she will reach out to the recruiter, never did. The third was really interested, sent me to talk to her team lead. Her team lead kept talking to over an hour and even asked to send more questions. Told me that i might have to talk to somebody else too or the HM will get a final approval from her boss and then we go to HC who meets every week and it should be done in week…blah blah bla.. Basically raised my expectation to the nth level that i am through. A week later recruiter contacted me that at this time the scope of the role has changed so they are not moving forward, which god knows what it means? Did they scrap the role itself. WTF, I mean i spent 3 weeks talking to this team, meeting multiple team members, was given clear signs, and the poof the role is gone. I don’t know if she is just making it up or they are talking to others. Is it just me or google recruiting treats candidates like shit? Has someone else had similar experience? I mean at this point i have given up the hope of ever matching a team in google. #tech # Google #L5/L6 TPM

Damn cousin
Currently in the club. Had my first match call… waiting. Approved for L5/L6 design position
What does design position mean? Is it a TPM design?
I’m a product designer.
Can you ask the recruiter to match you with an alternative team if roles are available? After that experience they may be sympathetic to doing so.
Already did that. I first sat for 2 months without any team calls. Then another recruiter reached out. I told her my sob story after which she got me these 3 dreaded team calls. You see how screwed up it is..
Yeap, this is typical. Just let it play out. Since you haven’t go to HC, don’t keep your expectation high.
Well i asked the recruiter specifically is there a problem with the feedback coz of which i am not going to HC first. He said NO, the process has changed and we are not allowed to send to HC anymore unless you have a team matched.
Not true, it is only to increase your chances.
Also to add - something similar happened but I went to the HC. Told me he’s pretty confident I’ll pass the HC with my feedback. If it was any other company, honestly, I would never apply again no matter how much they pay.
How long it took for you to match? How long have you been in HC?
I went to HC first.
Google TPM interview process is the worst in the entire world. Interview process - horrible and then worst is that they low ball and down level you after HC approves. The whole thing is horrendous.
Not just TPM, other tech roles, too.
Is this the same for SWE? Im interviewing now for SWE, and don't know what to expect as far as timeline if I pass the interviews..
It can be, I'm waiting for TM after HC for about one month already
To be brutally honest, your interview experience will be dependent on what recruiter you get. Not everyone has the same standards unfortunately.
Is that tm before Hc for non tech? I had my onsite last week and Hc first then team match
Went through similar process. I had 2 team match calls and now on to the HC. Let’s see how this plays out.
Welcome to the club man lol. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever been apart of.
I Have been in this for 8months now and it’s seriously exhausting…not sure why they put candidates through so much…the majority of these jobs aren’t even leadership positions. Never experienced anything like this before.
Where are you in the process? Did you go to HC?
