Peaceful Protest Hasn’t Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
I have offers to join the silicon validation team at Google and software eng team at Databricks. Both seem really interesting, but work is quite different. 3.5 YOE
I mean, no offense, but when you reach the stage where you make $400K, you should have a pretty good understanding of your job preferences. I would wager that silicon validation is not going to be that dynamic and interesting, but I don't know you. Only you know yourself.
Might surprise you, but your salary level doesn’t determine your job preferences. People making over 1 million can also easily be torn about what next job to take. A mid level exec at a big company can totally be confused about taking a c-level role in a smaller company.
Join databricks. Pros: 1. Paper money won’t decrease a lot by opinion in my uneducated opinion. 2. Google is doing layoffs, it is not in its prime. 3. What’s silicon validation? Does that interest you. 4. Our refreshers are amazing, better than Google’s. Also Google won’t give you refreshers for your first year now but we will. Edit: verify this, my knowledge might be outdated. Cons 1. Google has good 401k matches and all, we don’t. Add 10k to your comp for this. 2. Google has perf multipliers on bonus, we don’t.
Do you actually think Databricks can still grow(valuation wise) in the next couple of years?
No clue. Your guess is as good as mine
Who the fuck voted Google. Quality of Blind is falling down with normies.
lol simps. I can’t blame them though. I used to be one till I got in too.
Dad? Is that you? Please come home
Isn’t silicon validation more related to hardware? This is more of a choice between domains rather than TC. Unless 180k base only is unsustainable for you in the next few years, but you already know the answer if that’s the case.
Google is a miserable shithole now. Anywhere but Google. Don't fall for the prestige either, everyone and their mother got in here the past 2 years, nobody cares about the long gone prestige.
Is Silicon validation part of DSPA org? If you want to specialize on software and hardware is not exactly your passion, I'd strongly recommend joining Databricks.
These are completely different roles. Suggest you stay away from hardware. It's career limiting. Go with Databricks. It's an ok place to go for a couple of years before you move elsewhere. Google is a hell hole now. The fact that the "emperor wears no clothes" has never been more apparent than right now. Google prestige was a fake thing to begin with - once you get through the pointlessly difficult interview process and start working there, you realize you are mostly doing shit work. Bottom line - don't stay at a place for too long unless you are a shrewd politician who can game the system at a company and move up the ladder. If you are genuinely talented/brilliant, start your own company. If you are mediocre, like most of us, switch companies frequently - keeps you honest, humble and well paid (instead of staring at a 3% raise at best every year).
Google as they have gBus and gFood
YOE?
