Which opportunity is better in terms of - project/team placement - ability to make impact - overall experience - return offer rate - anything else?
Lol why would he intern at FB and go to Google for fulltime when FB will pay a lot of money for signing bonus and stocks if he did well
FYI Google will match or beat strong Facebook offers. I got 75k signing + relo out of Google this past year on top of a 60% stock increase compared with their standard offer when I came back with one of the high signing bonus offers from Facebook.
Well ur FB offer isn’t that great which is why google did match u... Facebook pays at least 75k for signing and at least 150k rsu for exceed. If ur rock star, signing bonus is above 100k and stock could be over 200k Lol...
The major difference is that Google will make you re-interview for a full-time role (albeit only two interviews). I can imagine the intern program at Facebook might be better; I didn’t enjoy Google’s too much. If you’re more product oriented especially you may enjoy Facebook more, pace at Google tends to be slower.
Facebook. I may be biased but here's why: Project/team placement - For full-time, you go through bootcamp which lets you work with a team before making a choice. Google's team matching is a lottery and you are unlikely to get what you like. Ability to make impact - FB is all about impact. Interns get to ship code within the first week. You get to decide how to work to make the most impact. You learn to work smart and effectively. Overall experience - Both FB and Google offer great experiences and are consistently among the best places to work at in US. Return offer rate - FB does not make you go through conversion interviews and your return offer is based on your internship performance. The base pay for both Google and FB for fresh grads are similar (pretty non-negotiable) but you get a HUGE sign on bonus if you are returning intern. If you're good you don't have to worry about not getting a return offer. Anything else - FB interns get paid 8k while Google pays 6.6k. Both companies are great choices and have more similarities than differences. You can't really go wrong with either. Congrats to you for having such a choice! Hope to see you at FB!
FYI Google is closer to 7k than 6k.
Updated to a closer figure
How much should I weigh passion in the product? I don’t use FB/Insta much other than Messenger, whereas I spend way too much time on YouTube
Unless you have an offer for a YouTube internship, it doesn't matter.
Dang dropped the ball son!
Numbers aside, you gotta be working your ass off as intern at FB due to peer pressure and desire to get return offer. Its INTENSE
I wouldn't say it's that intense. Obviously there is a desire to get a return offer among the intern crowd, but the majority of interns do get them. Source: am a previous fb intern
Yeah it wasn't intense til probably the last couple of weeks and by then for most people the writing was on the wall.

It is a blessing…
If you know you’re good, go to the company you don’t want to work full time as much. The reason being if you end up in a shitty team on your internship you cannot easily overcome the negative reviews whereas it is easy to beat the interview. Also variety of experiences is helpful.
Tl;dr: go intern at Facebook and then work for Google full time.
