Thinking of choosing a name Aria for my baby boy.
While chatting with one of my friends from Google, I noticed that Google's yearly stock refreshers are more than double compared to Facebooks stock refresher. He is at the same level as me and received similar ratings. Is that in fact true? I am at E3 level and got a 40k refresher. My rating was exceeds expectations both times. My colleague at Google who had similar ratings got double that with same ratings.
Would appreciate specific numbers for a specific levels. Can you share them?
Updated!
Thanks, that's interesting. Do you have any data points for E5-E6 for google? Might be that Google is just trying harder for lower levels, but then adjusts to the same comp for higher levels.
This is true that fb has a smaller refresher than Big G. But not sure if it's double for your level. FB AVG E3/4 get 40k refresh and REALLY HIGH 4s at google have 100k+.
Ah that's sad!
But FB has a higher base so it's not that different
There's a lot more variables and variance to bonuses than level and rating. Like your manager, org, current total comp, stock price. There's only 4 ratings. 10% gets needs improvement 5-10% get top tier. Meets and exceeds are probably 50% and 30% of people. You don't really think they all get the same refresher. You have a sample of 2 data points. For SDE II I've seen exceeds get RSU varies from 15K to 75K in the same org.
That's interesting. These values are from google or amazon?
Amazon. I think 30-40K is prob most common for refresher for SDE2 but it varies a lot by performance even within same rating and how much stock has grown.
Unlike FB, Google stock refresher isn't dependent on just rating and level, it varies a lot
That's interesting. Can elaborate a bit more. What other factors are used?
What the guy above me said - it depends on org, manager etc. Someone from G can elaborate perhaps
40 k per year or 40k spread over 4 years ?
Over 4 years
For refreshers? Amazons annual stock bonus vests over 2.
Refresher is based on 1/4 of your initial grant. If you didn't negotiate well when joining you're screwed for long time
That's a very stupid formula
No it's not. It's based basically on your rating
Google stock refreshers are supposed to be forward looking and reflect perceived future value more than past contributions. there's a lot of mgr flexibility possible, because of that.
totally agree with this
I guess the idea is if you are good you will quickly get promoted from 3 to 4 and from 4 to 5. If you're lagging at 3 your comp will also lag and that makes sense (3 is really not showing much proficiency and you shouldn't be 3 anymore 1 year put of college - and who cares about your comp 1y out of college...). Maybe google doesn't have 5 as the minimum terminal level?
Google has 5 has minimum terminal level
I heard otherwise (e4 lifers) how long does one have to get to e5 at google ? (I think it's around 3y for us)
So what's average refresher size at FB? I got $175k as IC4 (which I believe is similar to E5 @ FB)
What department at Apple? What was your perf rating?
Have you been getting 175k every year on the average?
Are you suggesting that Google pays double what facebook pays for the same level and same rating? I've seen offers and total compensation for established employees from E3 to E7 and I can tell you that this is not the case.
Yes, but I am talking only about stock refresher. Not gross income.
My data and answer was valid for total compensation. I can't speak for everyone but the data points that I have do not corroborate your concern.
