Got two competing offers - I’ve accepted the Salesforce one, so would have to burn the bridge to go to Google. Salesforce Offer Details: LMTS - Remote 360K TC, 35k Signing Bonus Google Offer Details: Senior SWE (L5) 363k TC, 25k Signing Bonus Current: Senior SDE (L6) Amazon Dive and Save: 400k. Previous comp 280. Mostly focused on finding better work-life balance - also looking to transition to Manager. Google job would be with GCP. Salesforce job would technically be Tableau. I've done the pros/cons, I've done the soul searching, and I'm still stuck. I've had the dream of working for Google since I was 10 - but am worried about possibly bad work-life balance at Google Cloud (since I'm burnt out from Amazon). Which should I choose? #google #salesforce
What’s Amazon D&S? What’s your level on Amazon. You will have better chance to become a manager on Amazon. Since so many people leave the team. Once you are a manager then you can change company
See post - and I know you're right; my current role has a manager path in ~6 months; but I'd have to play two roles (Sr. SDE x2 & SDM) during those 6 months and that sounds like too much at the moment. Oh and D&S = Dive and Save
Google Cloud wlb is not even closely comparable to Amazon wlb 😅 Also you can squeeze out 450k for an L5 offer
Salesforce offers amazing WLB. Transitioning to manager at Salesforce might be easier than in GCP. If you want some peace in your life at this juncture, join Salesforce.
Go to Google now. Come to Salesforce when you want to put your feet up and sip margaritas
Agreed, I’d go to google for a while and then come to salesforce as pmts
Bingo!
Are you sure Google will offer you 400k? I doubt it!
Also, Salesforce remote means you can live in a LCOL location which would make it much more competitive since 360k in LCOL is atleast comparable to 450k in CA/NYC!
Remote comp doesn't depend on location?
Remote comp is impacted by location
Sounds like you need a break. That’s Salesforce.
Go to Google, salesforce job will always be there
I expect the opposite is also true?
Google is a harder interview…
Insist on PMTS position at Salesforce and ask for higher comp. That will at least buy you some time, although to be honest offers don't really expire anyway. Mid to high sde3 at Amazon is equivalent to pmts at Salesforce in my opinion. I have worked for both companies.
I’m a relatively new L6, but comp still seems like a good tactic for getting the offer extended.
YOE ?
