YOE: ~3.5 current TC: let's just say ~$180k I passed the Google interview and got a team match, but - as L3 (new grad level), which is insulting as I have 3.5 YOE and - requiring a second onsite. According to the recruiter, range is ~$125k-$129k (no wiggle room) plus ~$200k equity (TC: $179k?) I also got an offer from Yelp, with: - IC3 (senior) and - base $150k with ~$250k equity. (TC: $212.5k? without signing bonus) What the fuck, Google? There is literally ZERO overlap between the two levels. My second round Google onsite is mid-week next week (and we know how slow Google is - I asked to move it to this week but they moved it by one day instead of one week lmao) - is it even worth bothering with Google at this point seeing as how they want to downlevel me to hell? I asked the recruiter to match my Yelp offer and she said "no we put a lot of thinking into your level. we're not moving you." ???!! Google doesn't GAF about even trying to match offers I guess? Thoughts? Also: - Tell me about the cultures (both are for front-end) - the good, bad, and ugly - If you don't work for either company, do you have thoughts about all of this? Stick with Yelp? Wait out Google? - If you do work for either company - are either of these offer estimations accurate? Anyone got anything higher or lower?
Apparently they think you're L3. With that YOE you should be considered for L4 but L3 with a few yoe is not uncommon
This. Once HC has made their decision regarding level, they usually won't budge. They might only budge on TC
@jXaC08 - my recruiter says they never pay outside of the $125-129k band. Is there any remote possibility of getting that to $150k? That sounds wildly out of L3 band lol
Have you passed HC?
I would go to HC after my second onsite I think.
In this case HC haven’t make any decision yet, you may have a chance to get L4 if you ace your second onsite. How many rounds are needed in the second onsite?
With that yoe, they consider you for both L3 and L4. Interviewers decided a hire or no hire for both levels based on your performance.
🍿
Do you have an actual offer from Google, or is this just speculation with recruiter?
I would worry about comp and level after your second onsite feedback next week. You will not be offered L3 either if you screw up your performance in that. Prepare well and keep us posted.
That makes sense. However, the deadline for my Yelp offer is a week from now. Since I'm more excited about the Yelp team than the Google team + the commute is much better (I'm in San Francisco and the Google team is in Sunnyvale), plus the offer is likely going to be lower, in your opinion, do you think I should still go through with Google?
There is nothing called as a hard deadline. The recruiter is narrowing your chances. Take a risk and stand your ground. He will back off. If you don't want to, accept the yelp offer and wait for google offer. If you get what you want from google, reject yelp offer and move with G.
The levels.fyu picture is also somewhat misleading. Use the comp data to determine the true mappings. Yelp IC3 should probably be matched to Google L4
I thought mappings were matched more to expected skill level at each company.
Lol, no. Levels.fyi is poorly calibrated
Why u leaving cruise? I thought that was one of the hot companies rn?
1) I've always wanted to try a bigger company with more stability and mentorship. 2) Didn't think Cruise was the right place to grow the skills I wanted. There's more but I'll leave it at that.
Serious, it is very common scrappy small company's senior equals to L4 at Google. And more importantly, you didnt do well in your Google interview so they offer you L3.
Is Yelp a "scrappy small company" now though? They've been public for ages.
Unfortunately yes, from company size, product, rev, pay, technology, yelp compare to Google is a "small scrappy company", take a look at groupon, it is also a public company for years. Sorry dude, if you have experience working in both company, you will know why the level difference makes so much sense
How does one get an offer and also have to do more interviewing
I don't know. Google doesn't make any sense.
You might pass HC and get matched and start negotiating, but then after review of VP, they might reject you or make you do additional interviews
