I received the WhatsApp update with Meta AI today, and it's fantastic. I've been testing/dogfooding the bard capabilities to generate images for the past few months, but the quality and accuracy of Meta AI are truly impressive. It seems like Google might lose the AI race. First, ChatGPT gained popularity through word of mouth, and now, with Meta AI available on WhatsApp, it poses another challenge to Google's AI capabilities. Furthermore, it risks losing even more by relentlessly pursuing a singular direction ( AI, AI, AI... Just put AI in everything) without a real vision. Thoughts? #AI #OpenAI #Google #Meta #Deepmind
Agreed. Plus Zuck picked a good direction (open source ai) Google as usual is squandering its lead and doesn’t know how to commit - deer in the headlights strategy
Sandar is quite impressive at how bad he is at doing his job while being on top. He is the Mr. Bean of CEOs, just fumbling through his position. Hoping he survives.
Meta: - Open Source - Nvidia GPU, not open but most researcher have access to the same software stack. - New hires hit the ground running in days if not hours Google: - Proprietary software - Proprietary TPU - By the time you get all the permission setup, learn about the broken libraries, and bagged for TPU access, you want to quit already
Worked in an AI startup on AI infra team that builds everything in house. This is actually the most common complains from those AI engineers.
Agreed. Seems like we are going the way of IBM/ Xerox
IBM is still around, after 100 years. Most companies have a lot to learn from IBM’s countless experiences of transformation; from punch cards to software etc. No company is immune to disruptive innovation, it is all about how you transform to the next phase once you realized you are not innovating anymore.
Lose*
Google is losing the race. OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta are soooooooo ahead. The problem is management at Google. They are not innovative anymore. They are more focusing on hard skills than creativity.
Curious when did you get the whatsapp update ? Are you in US ? The rollout has been annoying … only I have it still among my group of family and friends.
Waymo proved slow and steady is the key. That's all I gotta say.
I'm an expert in distributed computing and pretty good at ML stuck for Google team matching. I cannot match for GCP nor ML roles because they decided to pick random people. I am not surprised Google is collapsing.
i will loose my doodoo on ur face if u dont start spelling it correctly
