I know I am not really in a place to judge Google, but their return to office desk sharing idea just sounds awful... I feel like if a company can't be bothered to provide a clean common work area, then they shouldn't require a return. https://fortune.com/2023/02/23/google-returning-staff-share-desks-partner-maximize-office-space-tidiness-expectations-rotational-model/ TC 180 YOE 7
It’s so hard to understand what this rto nonsense is really about. Clearly these companies are enjoying the savings on office space? Why mandate a return then??
Limits employees ability to take interviews during the day and easily hop to other remote jobs. It’s an anti-competitive practice
Exactly, the Great Resignation wouldn’t have been possible without WFH.
🤣
I know! Looks like WeWork 😂 Meanwhile - I am creating a home office game room. TV, Network Equipment, and Game systems are getting mounted. Gonna mount the computer monitors and setup flip down desks to maximize space.
There is desk sharing at Meta as well now
We're practically remote first tho
What do you mean by remote-first? Is it the default setup or only specific to certain postings/teams?
Tbh I don’t think this sounds *that* terrible, unless you end up sharing your desk with someone really gross, in which case it would be awful. But if a company is determined to RTO one way or another, then I personally would rather share a desk if it meant I didn’t have to go to the office as often in exchange
Keyboards just get grimy no matter how hygienic you are.
While I’m not a fan of desk sharing, it’s not like someone’s asking me to share a keyboard. People are expected to get stuff from their locker in the mornings and set themselves up. (Again, not defending desk sharing, just pointing out that keyboard sharing isn’t a thing. Yet.)
This is only for Cloud.
Yeah GCP
🤣
This is a really nasty system. Companies will keep tinkering with this until we end up back at 5 days RTO default unless you’re a special snowflake.
it creates an impersonal and sterile environment, which is exactly what companies want from their "resources". I've come to think of WFH as being a free range chicken versus in office is like being stuck in a cage
U get slaughtered anyway? 🤣
They do the desk sharing shit at Verizon since before the pandemic. It's terrible.
FAANG turning into WITCH…
Your comment made me laugh out loud.
Wipro Infosys Tata Cognizant HCL?
That sounds awful
It is. They expect us to bring keyboards and mouse from home if we don’t want to use dirty shared desk ones. Every day. As in, there’s no lockers or storage space for your belongings.
