Pichai is very concerned. Google's management issued a "code red" amid the launch of ChatGPT — the buzzy conversational AI chat bot created by OpenAI — as it's sparked concerns over the future of the Google search engine, The New York Times reported. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet, participated in several meetings around Google's AI strategy and has directed numerous groups in the company to refocus their efforts on addressing the threat that ChatGPT poses on its search engine business, according to an internal memo and audio recording reviewed by the Times. In particular, teams in Google's research, Trust and Safety division among other departments have been directed to switch gears to assist in the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products, the Times reported. Some employees have even been tasked to build AI products that generate art and graphics similar to OpenAI's DALL-E used by millions of people, according to the Times. https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/googles-management-has-reportedly-issued-a-code-red-amid-the-rising-popularity-of-the-chatgpt-ai/articleshow/96407949.cms
how did diversity cause this
Surely more unqualified diversity hires are the answer.
Funny enough openAI is using azure and received funding by Microsoft. The issue with Google’s AI team is they were too research heavy. Not business focused enough.
Google will be replaced by AI. Current AI is good at gather and using information, it’s not general intelligence. So, yeah: Google search is in danger or being replaced.
Well, Google search is basically the same sh!t from 15 years ago, the only difference now is that there’s more ads and tracking services, so, f*ck Google.

Is google not a better version of yahoo. It’s gonna get replaced eventually lol
The real problem of chatgpt is how it scales to become aware of current events as they happen. People would still continue to use google or something like twitter to search for real time information. Chatgpt is too expensive to retrain or update the way it is today.
You work in the tech space and you believe that the first version is the final version? I guess if you work for Apple, maybe this is true. Just add a new camera to it and increment the version?
It also gets a lot wrong, but still an amazing tool. I love how it came up with its own programming language though. It spit out example code that looked like it was mixed with typescript + Java.
My google searches have already reduced by over 50% since I’ve been using ChatGPT. That’s only going to increase as well. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
I like to cite my sources when I seek information, Chatgpt seems to authoritarian for my liking.
Yea I've tried for a few times and it just seems to prioritize giving you some answer that looks right rather than actual accuracy. Several times it's just been flat out wrong but seemed so confident
