I worked at Amazon last year. They sent me a 1099 with a couple thousand of other income on that with 0 federal income tax withheld. Any ideas why I'd get a 1099 from them? Not sure what income I'd have there that wouldn't go on the w2. Trying to make sure my taxes are right. Thanks!
Any contractor needs one from the hiring company. W2 is from your parent company.
? I wasn't a contractor. I was FTE, SDE
Oh, I thought 1099s were issued to the yellow badges. Perhaps there are adjustments covered under it too.
It's likely 401k
The employer match? Or something to do with mega backdoor?
If it is a 1099-R it is after tax contributions to a 401k. Or you got money out of your 401k account
Did you sell something on Amazon?
Nope
To Amazon*
It’s the unused PTO. You report it in other income in tax software.
Ah. This must be it. Thanks for the info!
If you sold rsu then you get that I guess
If you worked as a contractor you’d get 1099, if you are FTE you get W2.
It may be your employer funded health plan.
If they don't pay out your unused PTO on your last day then in CA they are in the hook to pay your daily rate until they do. These wages are reported on a 1099-misc and not the W2. It's weird but that's what happened to me at previous employer.
They did that to me even though I never joined amazon. I changed my mind in the last minute and didn't join, still they credited my account for 15 days of salary and later asked me to pay back. After all this they generated W2 for me with me owing $15 as tax liability for that $0 income.

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
Oh I just realized... maybe it was the unused PTO check after I left
don't think so, vac pay would be included in your W2 from Amazon
