Got a fix it ticket in California.
Do I need to show up at the location specified to clear it? Will I get more information about what to do in the mail? Is there a fine?

You'll probably have to pay a processing fee too. If I remember correctly I paid about $25 a few years ago. Make sure you get it cleared before the deadline, otherwise you'll get a fine.

Fix it and go to the nearest police station and get it signed
