It's a senior software role with great comp, almost double than what I'm currently making, and definitely a move forward and I've verbally accepted but little red flags are making me a little nervous. 1. Only had a single interview that was focused on React but apparently they use backbone and are slowly transitioning to Vue. 2. A big sell about the job was its NYC location (apparently in Queens since they leased their midtown Manhattan office to Apple) but now the manager wants me to move to Atlanta. 3. Apparently they had moved their office from SF to Atlanta because of which 90% of the team left and then furloughed everybody when COVID began. I do plan on accepting it but might just keep actively interviewing. What do you think? #macys #tech #redflags #software #engineer
Negotiate for the location you want.
That's the thing, I was told it would be in NYC. I will talk to the boss but I wouldn't have taken it if i was told it was in atl
Accept but keep interviewing. Macys might not be there for too long.
Savage but accurate
Hmm.. you might be right, thanks for the advice
If they have a midtown location, why cant you stay there?
Accept the job and let Macy's relocate you to Atlanta. There are a lot of tech jobs there, Atlanta has a much lower COL and taxes than NYC and the area is thriving. Macy's barely missed filing for bankruptcy last year and has been closing stores, so the comment that it may not be around for too long is accurate.
Can't relocate, my wife's job and kids are all here in the city
Pardon me, sir. Where are the men's ties?
HAH
I knew a guy in Macy’s IT based out of metro Atlanta. He complained constantly about the job and politics there. But he also was kind of a jerk, so it could have been him. That was years ago and it was IT not SWE but I figured I’d chime in anyway.
Thank you, this is what i've read in glassdoor and blind reviews too. Hoping that it's different since there was so much turnover
I know someone who worked as a SWE at Macy’s in Atlanta. It was not a good experience. The place sounded very dysfunctional. They did not stay long.
How is Macy’s OMS team I have recruiter reached out about engineering role
Macy’s is a good stepping stone company, but the culture and leadership make things difficult to advance as well as have clearly defined roles
Do you get a store discount?
Yeah, it's 20% on everything including clearance
