My experience mainly includes startups and mid-sized companies. And I'm from a Tier 3 school (which matters in India) I'm amazed that a recruiter reached out to me, I got through Google's interviews and they made an offer! However I would've gotten more TC. Here are some things that I (you) shouldn't have done: 1. Revealed my current TC in all it's glory (including pay slips, stocks etc) 2. Didn't approach multiple companies while interviewing - FAANG usually match offers, and it gives you more power to negotiate. 3. Did not negotiate too much above the initial offer 4. Worried more about Base Salary, when I could've asked for a Joining Bonus or more RSUs 5. Said yes too early Most of the above are due to a feeling within me that I don't deserve Google, and should take what I'm getting. Yep, I screwed myself. Anyways, I'm a Googler now, so I got that going for me which is nice. Just wanted to share my experience so that YOU can do better than ME :) Off to read "Fearless Salary Negotiation" by Josh Doody for the next time (not gonna leave Google anytime soon) New TC: ~40 Lakhs YoE: 3
What’s 40 Lakhs? Is that lower end of band in India?
It's low for FAAMG TC. People with half my experience get 50L+ offers from G and other FAAMG :)
It's average pay for 3 yoe at big companies these days. Google can easily pay 55-60 lpa based on competing or current salary
Congrats.
40 lac for 3 yoe is great offer, although i am not currently caught up on salary trends in india, curious, how much can L5 expect with 11 yoe at google?
DM me.
Thanks for sharing, shows that you're a caring person.
is it of l3 or l4?
L3
Haven't joined yet! But feel free to DM me in 2-3 months. I'll refer :)
Congrats! That's a very nice offer TBH :) You said Google recruiter reached out to you. I'm interested to know the reason behind this. Were you active (posting) on LinkedIn? Were you performing well in competitive coding platforms? (Codeforces? Codechef? Google Kickstart?) Were you working at a well known startup? Were you actively contributing to open source projects?
- I'm not very active on LinkedIn, but I have all my tech blogs / OSS projects listed there! You could say my profile gets updated whenever I contribute something. - I had applied to one Google role in January this year. Probably my application surfaced. - Yes, I was working at a well known startup in Mumbai. - Yes, my GitHub is pretty decent I would say. I also write some Medium blogs which I share on social media.
how many lcs in total?
Can you elaborate on saying “yes” too early?
Sure. I advise you to go through this first: https://haseebq.com/my-ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer/ and the follow-up post. The author mentions that if you reject or show disinterest in an offer, they'll up it slightly and ask you something along the lines of "Does this seem like an offer you would accept?" Exact thing happened to me. The key being never say yes to this, it's a trap. The offer can likely go higher, on a very slim chance that they rescind the offer.
Haseeb is a con-artist lol. That guy hasn’t stuck with anything for more than a year
