Got an offer from Google. Here are the mistakes that you shouldn't make

My experience mainly includes startups and mid-sized companies. And I'm from a Tier 3 school (which matters in India) I'm amazed that a recruiter reached out to me, I got through Google's interviews and they made an offer! However I would've gotten more TC. Here are some things that I (you) shouldn't have done:

1. Revealed my current TC in all it's glory (including pay slips, stocks etc)
2. Didn't approach multiple companies while interviewing - FAANG usually match offers, and it gives you more power to negotiate.
3. Did not negotiate too much above the initial offer
4. Worried more about Base Salary, when I could've asked for a Joining Bonus or more RSUs
5. Said yes too early

Most of the above are due to a feeling within me that I don't deserve Google, and should take what I'm getting.

Yep, I screwed myself. Anyways, I'm a Googler now, so I got that going for me which is nice. Just wanted to share my experience so that YOU can do better than ME :)

Off to read "Fearless Salary Negotiation" by Josh Doody for the next time (not gonna leave Google anytime soon)

@GoingGoG PPP is a way that underdeveloped country comfort themselves that their salary is not that bad compared with developed country. From my perspective, it is ridiculous.

    • Walmart I don't know if you are in India . Salaries have changed drastically here . Not only Google , Amazon and Microsoft also give 1Cr+ at similar levels (L6 at Amazon and SDE64 at Microsoft). Tons of startup also pay 1Cr+(mostly cash). It's all over blind. Only thing you need is to search TC India.

Haseeb is a con-artist lol. That guy hasn’t stuck with anything for more than a year

    • @cisco: and why is that a bad thing? He's smart to find opportunities outside and took them. Better than staying at one company for 10 years. Haseeb worked in Airbnb which is pretty commendable.

On what base are you proclaiming he is a con artist :)

Thanks! I say I got screwed cause I've heard salaries at G, way more than mine for half the experience.

If I was the TechLead, I wouldn't be posting this to help the community, would I ;)
