Got a first offer as a sales engineer. My background is cyber security. I got an offer from an HR startup for 175 OTE, 140 base. However still looking into other companies: cyware, density, medallia, and proofpoint. The company that gave me the offer only gave me two days (eod today) to accept. How’s the offer? Any thoughts on roles or situation? Thanks!#sales #enterprise
How is Exabeam doing?
Externally seems to be doing well. Internally I’d say the exact opposite. Not the healthiest working environment and very little documentation. Very bureaucratic for such a small org. What about proofpoint? What’s it like working there? That’s the other option I was looking at.
Work life balance is great, pay is average. Proofpoint was doing ok, before Thoma Bravo acquistion came in to the picture. Now, there is a lot of confusion of what TB will do with Proofpoint after the deal is closed some time end of this month. On the internet, TB does not have good reputation after aquisition of other companies they were involved in.
The offer isn’t bad but what is the OTE based on? If it’s floor and you have upside why not, but if sales aren’t good and you end up at 150K not great. Location?
There’s no cap and they just got series B and seem to have a lot of opportunity in the US market. Currently I’m at 140k for 100% of my salary no variable component. So regardless I think it’s a good salary move. It’s remote but western us region focus.
Take it and learn the ropes of being an SE for a year or two and then reevaluate. Typical OTE for a good experienced SE is ~$240k plus equity.
Woah! Huge salary! Thanks for the advice. I did decide to take it and that was my plan!
How's it going there? Are you liking the role?
175k ote if you have no sales engineer experience is pretty good imo. How many YOE do you have overall? Location?
I have almost 7 in the industry new to sales. It’s a remote opportunity
