Hi Blind, I got laid off a few months ago from Microsoft Azure and have been working contract for a month now. How hard is the market right now for someone at my level? I got hired as a new grad early 2022. Im a US citizen too, not sure if that makes any difference. Really appreciate any insights, advice/ help. Ive been grinding leetcode and system design but just can’t land any interviews, I’m worried as time is passing I’ll become obsolete and won’t have a career. #swe #engineering #software #developer #referral #hiring #jobhunt #layoffs #severance #career #affirm #afresh #airbnb #alibaba #amazon #apple #blackbaud #blend #block #brex #bytedance #cashapp #cloudflare #cloudkitchens #coinbase #compass #confluent #coupang #cruise #databricks #datadog #discord #docusign #doordash #dropbox #epicgames #facebook #figma #flexport #gong #google #grab #hbo #hertz #humaninterest #instacart #linkedin #lyft #lyrahealth #microsoft #meta #netflix #newrelic #nvidia #opendoor #oracle #overtimehours #palantir #pinterest #purestorage #reddit #redis #rippling #robinhood #roku #salesforce #slack #snap #snowflake #sofi #spotify #square #stockx #stripe #tanium #thumbtack #tmobile #twilio #twitch #twitter #uber
Keep trying, you will end up somewhere good again. Don’t worry about layoffs. Definitely lots of contract positions still present, unlike full time.
Thanks for the advice, are contractors regarded the same on resume? I do have FT experience but only for 1.5 years at MS
What city are you living in? Did you apply for any government or healthcare jobs? It's lower TC, but land that and use it at a jumping stone to another job.
Thanks for the tip I didn’t know that, do you have any suggestions Im mainly focused on getting experienced for now, Im in Seattle
I would just search for "healthcare SWE jobs Seattle" or government SWE jobs Seattle. The barrier for entry is low and probably no leetcode.
How hard is the market? You tell us wtf you're the one that got laid off and are on contract. Keep leetcoding and doing system design. Get lucky and accept the job you need. If you want to put in more effort, keep interviewing and get the job you want.
Keep trying. Market down and ups are normal. Keep trying you will catch a up wave. Just continue working at other place to increase experience
I think you could use more hashtags
Suggest the missing ones. I totally agree.
In a similar position. Where do u find contract roles? also best of luck
This position is with another team at MS but with a contractor, I can definitely pass along the info in DM, best of luck to you too✌️
Dm’ed you
Dm if you see a fit at TikTok
Mate how much have you made off tiktok referrals? $$$
Not enough to retire early
Did you try non tech fte positions? Banks healthcare etc
DM for Raytheon, good WLB!
You got experience at Microsoft you will be fine just wait for market to recover
His resume is contract not full time.
I was an FT for 1.5 years before getting laid off now Im contract, does the time period matter in this case
