I wish it was a done deal but in reality I don’t think it’s even close to be called done!
Someone told me it has to go through in this session otherwise the process has to restart next year. That leaves me with less hope of it passing.
Even if the process does restart next year, it will likely pass. It was passed overwhelmingly by both houses of congress, and Biden has stated that he supports eliminating per-country limits.
Thats good to know. Thanks for sharing.
How many years can it take to clear the backlog? 5 ? 10? 20?
more than 10 according to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jqWcyx7Mcc&ab_channel=SupportAllofUS
Thats a stupid video by someone with no knowledge. It will reduce to <2 yrs for everyone.
Cruel joke. Expires on Jan 3 unless it passes Congress, then if there are amendments, gets senate reapproval and is signed into law by an outgoing President....
This country will only have one race of immigrant in the future
Hey that has happened before
Unlike many my problem is actually not that its Indians but that now all gc.s are going to swes I hate how we have a huge shortage of doctors and dentists and hence we pay them so much (because their bars restrict supply through student caps) and now even the few immigrants are going to be replaced by swes. So selfishly as a swe i don't want that all immigrants are in my one profession. Ideally we'd bring a million Indian doctors and dentists a year. What is it about India that only tech workers leave? But also I know why all brilliant Indians aren't coming. They'd stand behind swes. Now all brilliant talent globally will be behind swes. Yay America, we will be the best in making ad algos!! Bye all scientists, pharmacological and physicists, they'll just be moving somewhere else
You clearly don’t understand how the process work for doctors. Their biggest hurdle is not the visa or green card, but getting admission into a residency program which is an insanely stupid process. Just to increase their chances, International doctors have to apply to atleast 30 healthcare programs, clear USMLE, participate in unpaid internships, shadowing and many other stuff which demotivates them to come here. I personally know few brilliant international doctors who wasted lot of time and money and gave up. TL;DR; doctors don’t want to come here.
Read the bill properly. There’s separate quota for doctors & nurses every year.
I couldn't find any news about this. Any info on if House is planning to vote on this before the winter break?
There was no such plan to begin with. They introduced it in a lame duck session as a political gimmick, nothing more.
That's disappointing. Does that mean it can be reintroduced in the new session next year as it is? What are the odds of it passing then?
It's not a done deal yet. There is reconciliation between the two bills, and then there is the president. But assuming these things happen, I'm really happy that a discriminatory law will be ended.
Why do you think this is discriminatory law, not affirmative law?
I don’t consider this discrimination because what if you came from a tiny country and suddenly cannot get a GC because there is an ocean of candidates from the Chinas and Indias of the world?
