“Grindr has lost about 45% of its staff as it enforces a strict return-to-office policy that was introduced after a majority of employees announced a plan to unionize” https://fortune.com/2023/09/07/grindr-rto-fired-half-of-staff-return-to-office-mandate/amp/ #misc #rtt #rto #amazon #google #meta #apple #grindr #microsoft #tech #union
Eminently foreseeable, hence seems like it was their plan.
The name Grindr has the word “grind” in it. What else could you expect?
Jesus Christ this is a stupid comment
Meta has TEAM, yet, everyone out on their own
Well played CEO, well played.
Union head works for CEO
Can ceo fire union worker?
Union head works for CEO..easy
“Chief Executive Officer George Arison told investors at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology conference in San Francisco this week that more staff attrition is expected as a result of the mandate, which will be financially advantageous in the near term. “The team will be smaller than where we were before and where we want to be,” Arison said. “So that’ll obviously impact margin in a positive way in the near term. But I also think that shows that you can have a lot of leverage in this business because you don’t need that big of a team to do the things that we need to do.”
I appreciate this straightforward honesty of what RTO is really about, in case anyone had doubts.
Honesty? It’s so common sense that the CEO states it as if describing the color of the sky. Years of prosperity have given tech workers a deluded sense of value that does not match up with their employers’. There is no talent shortage with h-1b and opt. There definitely has not been since COVID taught companies that remote interviews could scale their hiring pipeline by orders of magnitude for free. The talent shortage is a lie that has succeeded in convincing tech workers to over saturate themselves and suppress their own wages. Tech companies doubled or tripled headcount since 2021 and NOW of all times the workers think they have leverage? LMAO It’s hilarious that now the overpriced and overstocked fungible units of labor think they’re hurting their company by quitting over RTO policy. There must be some psy-op these companies are running to convince employees that it’s their own idea to quit.
This was likely by design
CEO ultimate quiet firing move. Mask the firing with a fake RTO mandate
Back to factory settings
First off. Good move by the company. Reduce your HC cost massively, no severance to pay out, and no layoff in the media. Also hilarious that people are acting all hand wavy about 2 days in the office. So entitled, it’s 2 days. Stop complaining and just find a new job. If your response is the job market is bad and you don’t want to leave, perhaps you go to the office two days a weeks then.
Nope. They got six months of severance and COBRA.
So misinformed, Stripe. So many of their workers were hired remotely without a nearby office at all. They don’t even have an LA office yet, but are requiring employees to commit to RTO or leave. Employees were given two weeks to decide if they would uproot their lives and move across the country for their shitty union busting employer.
