Who is excited about Apple new iPads?
Principle engineer here. Making $150k + bonuses + equity. Homeowner in DC area (so relocation is a no-go) Apologies in advance if this post seems crude or makes me seem like a douche. I just like to be terse, and get straight to the point... I like building software but hate what I'm building it for. And, frankly, the engineers I work with arent as intelligent as other teams I've been on. They get work done but most are there to push JIRA tickets and dont really do anything innovative or impactful or support work that does. They are always indifferent or have no opinion. Software is subpar as a result. But im growing more interested in improving tech in the healthcare space. Feels better to build software that can actually help the general public in an industry that really needs the help. Are there any good software companies (in the healthcare industry) to check out?
Epic software consultant ?
Company? or a job title?
Have you considered adjacent areas: non-profit, social responsibility, etc.? I would think there would be a lot in the DC area.To me, health care tech falls more on the "lawful neutral" side of things.
Yeah I have but a lot of non-profits (and similar) have lower comp offerings 😞
Yup, doing good comes at a cost. Most large corps have sustainability/philanthropic arms, but they vary in how real they are.
BLR/HCPro is one you could look at
Join me, but not healthcare. Fintech :p
why fintech
thanks! im guessing you mean "joinme" the company? have you worked for either of them?
Healthcare is a shit show. You’ll rapidly become disillusioned. I certainly did
Now im curious lol.... you mind telling me a little more?
Imagine how old banking systems are. Now recall that almost every small doctors office was using paper records and only recently started to try to move to electronic medical records. It's a huge shit show that's dominated by Epic systems, and maybe a few other big players. Then there's HIPAA compliance. Most of your work will be around enforcing and validating that you're complying with various laws and policies.

Just checked it out. I like the idea. It definitely sounds like something I would be interested in. But the individual membership is $775/year and there are no job postings for contribution. How would someone get their foot in the door there? 🤔
So it sounds like you’d need to enter a company on a junior level / unrelated lateral and have them sponsor you to learn it. I know a company called MedHost (based in Dallas) has the position of Interface Analyst which is the starting position for these types of coders. 100% WFH

well this looks interesting...
And to explore on your own, look at EligibleAPI their API documentation is now restricted
You’re a principal engineer and you can’t even spell it?
Try Bloom API or Apple Healthcare.
