Around 2 years ago I realized that I can't read office PPT presentations even when I sit on the first row. I went to an ophthalmologist and got a prescription for eye glasses. Since I wanted something cheap I searched using Google and purchased a pair. The matter was closed. In the next few months I realized that no matter what web site I go it. I always see ads of eye glasses everywhere. This is even when I had already purchased a pair. I cleared all the cookies, installed privacy extensions on Chrome but nothing helped. Since I was concerned about privacy I changed my browser to Safari installed an ad blocker and I forgot about the issue. Now 2 years have passed and the latest MacOS upgrade disabled my ad blocker (safari said the following extension is disabled because its slowing down my browser). Guess what ads I saw.... eye glasses.
Thats why you should use duckduckgo
Would you prefer ads that are completely irrelevant to you ? I mean, you're going to get ads no matter what ..
The title of your post is a little misleading. I thought it was gong to be about something you discovered that guys never search for glasses on Google. Commas help.
That!
then keep searching for cars or anything you are favorite. then ads will be changed! haha. this is what I did to fade out the ads for things I already bought.
Scary thing is the ad shows up on your friends Facebook and etc. It is not just Google. They sell user data to ad companies which collect from all sources including Google and Facebook. Imagine you search for something private for private (eg mental health) and the ad shows up on your close friends Facebook. He might start suspecting someone in his close circle searches those terms. These are what my friends are seeing and being scared. We need stronger privacy law.
If the algorithm assumes that my friends' personal searches and problems affect what ads I need to see, then the designers probably don't have any friends, and the vendors are overpaying them for generating wrong leads altogether!
Well friends tend to share common interest. Sometimes geography makes more sense over closeness. If data shows I live close to my friend and we tend to search for common things related to house, they could show discounted house cleaning package for me and my friend. These are in fact very powerful and I am surprised someone smart enough to work at Oracle doesn’t understand this. It has already been happening for many years.
Bro... Do another google search for “I love my life after LASIK”.
Enjoy dry eyes, light sensitivity and back to where it was after 7 years as a bonus.
I was solving his problem. His problem is google, not his eyes. As for LASIK, I’ve heard from ppl I know that it’s the best thing they’ve ever done. I do read what you’ve written on, you know, google. Also, if you’ve got -5 or lower, then the “return” you are talking about will only be minor Compared to how bad the eyes were originally. You might get “back” to -2, but not more. Subjective opinions.
Lol lol lollipop sunshine eyeglasses rainbow
Yeah, this is a scam going on with online advertising. I get ads for furniture from the same store that I bought it from -- 6 months down the lane. Happened with many other products as well. I think the ad guys at Google do a major advertising job on the advertisers :)
You were logged in to gooogle and probably used chrome. Never run for any elected office now!
No I uninstalled Chrome from my MacBook after that incident. Although I am logged on to google because of gmail and youtube.
They all track you... It's an arms race! These mechanisms should have been nipped in the bud! They are the new viruses.
