H-1B stamping in Canada

I'm an Indian citizen working in the US on H-1B but don't have the Visa stamped on my passport. It's been an year and I would like to get it stamped. How easy is it to get an interview slot in Vancouver if I plan to attend in a month? Will there be any extra scrutiny for attending the interview elsewhere than in the home country? I came to the US on F1 and had the interview in India. I don't want to visit India soon for personal reasons.

Why the desire to get it stamped? Get is stamped when u need to. When u go wherever out of the country.

I plan to visit South America soon for vacation and don't want additional visa baggage at that time

It’s more risky to do it .. the additional burden comes from being stuck in Canada if you get your 221g

Why don’t you visit some other city and not your home city in India , there’s a direct flight to Delhi from sfo. They won’t question why you applied from another city than your home address

Thought about the option of attending from another Indian city. But, prefer Canada over a longer flight to India. Is it common to be delayed when interviewed at a consulate that's not in India for Indians? My visa, education and work journey is pretty straight-forward and is all related to each other. I get that Consulate or USCIS decisions could be a gamble sometimes.

It’s not common just has a higher probability, I have had both friends who have got stuck and also gotten it processed . You can evaluate the risk vs return for your case.

Afaik, even if it goes smooth this time... if u do it once in 3rd country...it can pose future challenges. U may not get dropbox option (u will be asked to go for interview) during extension, visa renewals and transfer....I may be wrong but this was one of the question asked while I was filling my ds160 recently....I have decided to go to India (2 birds, 1 stone) visa+family visit.

I believe one is not eligible for the 'dropbox option' for the immediate extension and not for all the future ones if their previous interview was elsewhere. I know many do go to India for the reason you mentioned.

I don’t know what’s the exact deal, but looks like sometimes the embassy either does not have enough information to make a decision or maybe the officers kind of avoid making a decision for a person from another country. In that scenario, they may send your case for further admin processing. I know of 3 people who went for interview in Vancouver, had their passport taken and waited for almost a week to hear back on the decision. Since their passport was taken, they couldn’t leave Canada. While a week is certainly not a long time, you never know now much admin processing usually takes.

Cool, it looks like there are a fair chances of a processing delay if I take this route. Thanks!

Why do u want to not go to ur home city?

Cisco TB10 OP Sep 21, 2019

Parents have constant travel plans and don't like there anymore and other personal reasons.

Roku cruella Sep 21, 2019

Oh so it’s not that u want to not go there. But that u don’t have any plans to go there. Got it.
