Got my H1-B picked in the 0th attempt, which feels incredibly fortunate. I am set to graduate with a Masters in May 2024, and I still have three years remaining on my F1 OPT/STEM OPT for employment. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this situation? #h1b #f1 #opt #stem #visa #2024H1B
Medicare and ssa tax.
Better than paying for 2nd , 3rd college fee && the emotional trauma you had to go through in your final attempt of visa process
High taxes with a lot less mental burden. Congrats. If you plan to move back, you get social security benefits in old age after 10 years of working on h1b
Like the US is going to be able to afford social security :) folks not living in the US will be the first ones to be cut off
Negative: you pay additional taxes Positive: you don’t need to reach out your university about OPT extension and do that process

You can still do counsellor notice and remain on opt . This way you can save taxes
When you do counsellor notice, can you still go back home for a stamp?
Yes
Shut your mouth and enjoy. Stop thinking about cons.
Switch to H1B, get in line for GC. Save opt, this way if you ever want to pursue a career change (MBA or anything STEM), you still have an opportunity. It's ok to pay a bit more tax than close doors. Also social security contributions can be taken out similar to 401k.. so you can see that like retirement contributions.
Never thought about it from this perspective !
@Tesla - taking that as a compliment ❤️
How conveniently we think H1B == GC 😂
Hi, when did you hear from kpmg? i haven’t heard anything yet :(
I did it with a new employer. My division stopped sponsoring here at Nokia.
If you get laid off you lose your H1b, so get it asap
Congratulations and welcome to life of high taxes
