Hi, My current work authorization will be void by end of this year. Amazon has applied H1B for me , and I have an offer from Microsoft where they could apply for L1 because I have past work ex with them. Microsoft wants me to join on my current work authorization and apply for L1 on the side. My issue is I like my work at Amazon and not very sure about the work in the team at Microsoft I have an offer from. Also, if I join just for L1 and it gets denied I loose a chance at H1B at Amazon too. Looking for suggestions on what to pick !
Don’t move to L1. a lot of companies won’t consider you. Get your H1b first and then you can move.
With L1 you can only work for company sponsoring and there is no concept of transfer, like H1b
Keep in mind that h1b is a lottery and you might not get it, plan accordingly
They both have pros and cons. L1: Pro - easy to get, almost guaranteed. May provide faster green card depending on your situation. Partner is guaranteed right to work Con - tied to Microsoft H1B: Pro- can transfer in some cases Con - Harder and slower to get. Lottery so you are gambling. Partner may not be able to work. If I were in your shoes, I would probably take the L1 offer, if not in the GC process. I’d aim to get a GC ASAP because the reality is - all visas suck and you’re always at risk when on one. If that means staying at Amazon (assuming you’re in the process with them), then do that. But you should consult an attorney :)
H1B > L1, L2 EAD > H4 EAD
