H1B with new employers < 2 years remaining

When talking to potential new companies, from what point (how long remaining from your full 6 years of H1B), it makes getting a new job/sponsorship very difficult? (If PERM & I-140 are to be submitted by the new employer once they transfer the h1b)

Pwd + perm wait times alone reach almost 2 years at this point. And this excludes all application gathering as well as labor market test. I think even 2.5 years is rather risky these days

So what happens if a person is within less than 1.5 years mark. They basically don't have any choice and will be unemployable? Any input would be appreciated Thanks

You dont switch your job, or at least try to go abroad in order to recapture some extra time at the end of that 1.5 years. But this is not legal advice. What you really do is speak to a lawyer :)

My understanding is PWR - 8 months, job campaign - 4. After that they file for I-140 and can start extending H1-b beyond 6 years. Where am I wrong and what makes it 2 years?

PERM

Isn't it that it requires PERM step as well? How long for that? Any of it can be expedited? Is there a place to see the wait times?

Remember that if you are waiting for PERM for >= one year, you can extend your h1b for 1 year

Is this waiting for PERM, or is it waiting for i140 to be approved or is it 1 year after i-140 is approved? Which? Thanks
