Requested my company to make it H1b premium processing. Offered to pay out of my own pocket in case they cannot approve additional cost of premium processing. I sense a hesitancy and unwillingness? Anything I can do to convince? And I don't understand why they would be unwilling? Any idea? FTE in a product startup, not a consultancy and they have filed h1b in the past and have experienced attorney setup.
Could employers worried about employee leaving post h1b approval?
Renewing an h1b is expensive and on top of that $2800 for premium processing is expensive for a startup. They’re probably checking their budget and hence the hesitation
This is first filing and not a renewal but yeah that could be the case
You can’t pay for your own visa. That’s fraud.
Not for extra charges of premium processing.. It depends on who wants the premium benefit. The immigration website was clear about either company pays or employee pays additional expense if they want premium benefits. I don't think they would be explicit about it if it was illegal. The basic fee payment could be illegal for employee to pay as h1b is sponsored visa. So that is understandable.

Consultancy or full-time? If it’s full-time, then employer may not be aware of the procedure.
