I’m not talking about unions. But it seems like many other industries have significant lobbying power and organizations going to battle for them. Look at the real estate agent association — everyone in America knows it’s an absolute scam to pay such a high commission (see recent lawsuit) yet they’ve fought tooth and nail to keep realtor pay high. Car workers, even apart from their unions, had the government ensuring that they can make money as manufactures change to electric vehicles that are simpler to assemble. Doctors and lawyers aren’t unionized either yet they gatekeep the amount of people in the industry. So why doesn’t the tech industry, which is more valuable and profitable than all of them, have anybody to go to bad for their workers? JUST TO CLARIFY: I’m taking about the WORKERS themselves, not the companies. TC: $350K
They do
The only people lobbying are our employers, they are trying to bring in as many 🇮🇳 H1Bs as possible to suppress wages.
Exactly — that’s my point!
???? Why do you think we don't have GPDR in the US? You think politicians all independently decided that it just wasn't worth it. Safra Catz (Oracle CEO) literally joined Trump's transition team when he became president. Why do you think that happened? She had a pickup truck and a free Saturday afternoon and helped Trump move into the white house cause she's just a swell gal?
Tech workers do have lobbies but because the entire class is fractured with different interests it’s unsuccessful as a class Tech companies - lobby for immigrant tech workers as long as the visa rules keep them confined to the company as bonded laborers who can be used to depress pay in the industry American right leaning - lobby against immigrant tech workers American left leaning - don’t lobby Immigrant tech workers - don’t lobby
This is probably the best reason — that sucks
They have, some tech companies have lobbyists driving their agendas. They also have internal PAC to request employee donations that could be used to drive the company agenda.
Let me clarify: I’m talking about the workers themselves
Lobbying needs money. Tech have no worker unions, hence no money to lobby. Big tech lobby for their own profits not for workers well being.
But neither do some of the other industries I listed and they at least have associations
Workers typically don’t lobby unless it is via a union. All the big tech cos have registered Lobbyists in DC and in the main State in which they do business.
Lobbyists support organizations which is why unions have lobbyists.
H1B is why...
