Sounds about right I remember being at an unnamed company when 9/11 happened. Everyone carried on that day like nothing happened while the world was burning down outside - "what's the status for bug foo?", "did you fix issue bar?". incomprehensible.
Man that would make my blood boil all these years later. My team carried on after layoffs as if mostly nothing happened the next day. But then again, somehow, some people are just so addicted to work that this is how they cope with stress. I can only imagine how they are with their families.
I am told by some self help books that I should remember that everyone is human and they all have their own crosses to bear. Tough to feel that way when you deal with some of the inhumane humans at work.
Years ago one of our recruiters didn’t show up to a meeting at 8 am. She would never do it without informing anyone. She was living alone and her family was in a different city but she had a few close friends in the company. So they went to check on her. It turned out that she died of a heart attack. 2 hours later people were asking who will take over their open positions. Those freaking hiring managers who did not respond to her messages for days, couldn’t wait even 24 hours.
Yes, sad but absolutely typical. BTW, the scum that asked "who will take over their open positions" are the same scum that will be quick to shift blame to you if you didn't respond to an off-hours email or will conveniently forget that they didn't review a document that needed their approval.
Even if they ask wont that be just a formality? People get so easily deceived that if someone is caring for them that means they genuinely care for them
