I graduate Summer 2022 and my prior internship (ServiceNow) offered me a full time offer. Th e team I'm returning to is a small apps team. The team itself is okay but the work is boring. I applied to a few internships that summer I was interning because I wanted to see if I could do an off-season internship before I graduate, however, most of these recruiters are asking me to do a summer internship and will not budge. I also tried applying for their full time positions but got rejected. Therefore, I've only been able to get interviews for their intern positions. Some of these companies include Microsoft, Facebook, and a few other big names. I really like these companies and heard they have high return offers and I have really enjoyed the teams I've spoken with. I need advice as to what I should do though because I feel like I'm stuck. If I renege SNow after I get my return offer with any of these companies, it would be at least 2-3 months before my start date. Should I stay with SNow? Or should I take the risk and intern for these companies next summer, get a return offer, and then renege SNow? Or should I just decline SNow to avoid this? I'm afraid my recruiter will hate me and blacklist me or I'll end up with no return offer from SNow or the internships. I'm a little scared but hopeful... I know deep down that I won't be happy at SNow and I want to try my hand at these other companies. Has anyone been in this situation before? I'm truly grateful for getting this far, I just don't want to slip up and make a big mistake I'll regret. I've been trying my best to navigate this situation on my own but haven't been able to figure things out. I'm hoping Blind community will give me some advice. #careeradvice #advice #swe #software #engineering Return offer SNow: 164k SC Others: What you'd expect for Facebook, Microsoft, DropBox, etc. New Grad
Extend start date to after internship for some growth time before major life transition
Is this something people usually ask for before they sign the offer letter or after?
You don’t sound like you enjoyed your time there. I would just tell your recruiter you found an opportunity with a better fit and go with that one.
Don't renege, say you need to delay start due to scheduling conflict at school and need an extra time to finish everything. Dont be specific!
I tried this and told them I would graduate December 2022 and they told me that I need to do a summer internship instead
Also, they want me to sign now! Not sure if other companies work differently but they want me to sign the offer even though I haven't graduated yet.
Renege once you get a better offer. You’re very young stay as stress free as you can
Is it best to be honest as to why I renege? Or is it better to find another reason/keep it vague
"personal/family reasons" always works
