Friend’s CV says “UX Researcher/Lead” and has an official employment verification letter from the former employer that confirms this title. However, the employer was using the “business title” in the letter for immigration purposes (yes, this is legal). The official HR title that would show up in the background check is “UX Researcher” (no Lead). Questions: 1. Will the background check flag the discrepancy between these 2 titles or is that close enough to go through? 2. Could the “lead” simply be left out in the background check form or would this be flagged by/to the recruiter as a discrepancy between the form and CV? 3. Will hiring managers usually see the exact titles in the background check results or will they only be forwarded red flags? 4. Is there a reasonable excuse to ask that the former(!) employer not be contacted but instead provide the official employment verification letter or paystubs etc.? I would appreciate to get some insights from HR/Recruiting/HMs. TC: 0 (unemployed) #backgroundchecks #hrissues #recruiting #HireRight #Checkr #ADP
Hiring managers don’t have access to background checks. The most will happen is discrepancies with the provided information vs business information. For reference, senior researchers are L4 and above. Sometimes titles don’t match leveling, hence them just being a “User researcher” on paper. The best thing is to just let the recruiter know that they’re pulling up incorrect information. The background check company has no means to confirm other than the online database. 99% sure chances are they’ll contact the background people and tell them to just waive it considering your friend has already been given an offer.
what do you mean by "just let the recruiter know that they’re pulling up incorrect information" and "online database"? The background check will be conducted by contacting the HR department of the former company.
There is an online database all companies post former employee information on, for authenticity in the event there are background checks. The HR department isn’t going to take calls day and night to confirm someone’s employment status and job title. The best they can do is contact any references/previous managers one would list in their details given when asked about contact info.
There is no difference between UX researcher and UX researcher lead. Lead is just the level. The difference that would raise an eyebrow would be if it said janitor or something random.
Doesn’t matter. Close enough. You can even call yourself UX strategist or head of research if you like. As long as you’re not wildly changing it to another job function like saying you’re a SWE you’re fine.
May I ask how do you know that? Are you in recruiting?
Standardization in job titles between companies isn't a thing
Are they getting a Q lol?!? Background investigators want your last few paystubs and your W2s.
Dude no one cares you will be fine.
