HW companies with decent compensation and responsibility?

I recently moved to Apple from Marvell. Even though my compensation is significantly higher compared to my previous role, I miss my old job since I had more responsibility at Marvell. Companies like Apple/Nvidia/Intel have an army of employees and do a lot of custom stuff which is very niche to their product. Also, the visibility to the higher management is minimal. I feel like my work does not have the same impact on the company's outcome which it had before. Which company is best for the mix of compensation, responsibility and visiblity? TC: $280K

Marvel pays better than Apple after all the heavy refresher and stock growth??

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

No, like I said, my TC is significantly higher now at Apple compared to Marvell.

Marvell yNne87 Feb 14, 2022

What was your level, YoE and TC at Marvell

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

Staff, 3, $180k

Qualcomm jsyvwjK Feb 14, 2022

Staff at 3 yoe?

Negotiate higher salary and go back to Marvell?

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

I have been thinking about this... Might do this after 1 yr to avoid repayment of sign on bonus and get through 1 vest cycle..

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

Meanwhile, how is the culture at Nvidia? Do you have the same feeling/opinion?

Apple Kog Feb 14, 2022

What’s your level at Apple ? Coming in, you can’t directly be on a high impact project. Give it a couple of years. Plus with WFH, things are in disarray

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

Ict4.. i agree, wfh has made things worse.. especially for someone starting new

Apple Kog Feb 14, 2022

Was similar for me when I joined as ICT4 from Marvell, even though it was before Covid. I appreciate this place much more now, execution and delivering on the roadmap is spot on, along with all the automation of routine work which gives you time to work on really exciting stuff. My role expanded quick, just give your manager some time to entrust you with more responsibilities

Apple brand in your resume helps get better offers in the future. Stick it out. You got time on your side.

Apple ijn3&de Feb 14, 2022

We are like a football team everyone contributes to the performance of the company including the kicker. You need to get used to the culture first and 1) you will be given more impactful work when your manager trusts you 2) you can start to pitch cool stuff you think we can do, that always gets visibility So yea give it about a year.

Marvell bQcy10 OP Feb 14, 2022

Thanks! That helps

Apple Mela Feb 14, 2022

Yeah I totally agree and second this comment. Trust is that feeling that management shows towards you by finding you reliable and giving you work with higher/wider scope. When you start to really feel this established relationship is also when in general path to promotion is around the corner.

Amazon davelimp Feb 14, 2022

Join Amazon Labs for visibility and scope

Qualcomm LthU31 Feb 14, 2022

I am joining soon.

Meta jIkI46 Feb 14, 2022

I agree with this statement. Regardless of the toxic culture within Lab, the work quality and the visibility is better than that of Apple and/or Facebook. I moved to Meta for higher comp but I still miss the work in Amazon (which was the reason I left Apple in the first place).

Cadence callbluffs Feb 14, 2022

Try EDA field application engineering or product engineering senior roles

ANSYS MwUT40 Feb 14, 2022

How good are product engineering roles at Cadence? Team, WLB, compensation? Any comments are appreciated.
