Unable to progress at all

I was based on US 2 years back and had a layoff. Moved to Canada and joined MSFT. I was through in throughout backend person but the team I joined is frontend heavy. Applied for some internal positions, did two full loop and get rejected in both of them. May be I didn’t perform as well as outside candidates would do but I thought there would be some leeway for internal candidates. My connects are quite decent. Now I am totally lost as to how to improve my work quality. If I think about outside MSFT, In canadian market I dont think there are any opportunities that will be significantly better in terms of salary. For that reason, I wanted to make internal move and there is also no issues with 100% remote culture.
