Hey Blind I have an interesting situation here where I accepted a formal offer from company A with a start date X. Today I received a much better verbal offer from company B with the promise to send me an official offer on X+3 or later. I really respect people from A and don’t want to do bad for them by starting to work there and then having to leave shortly. From another side I don’t know much about company B to trust them blindly. How to better handle the situation? Current TC: 0 due to layoff. Previous TC: about 210K.
That’s true - exactly how I got laid off after 2.5 years of a hard work(offer can be rescind at anytime). Thanks. But why to give personal reason? I was thinking just to say I got a more interesting opportunity since it’s not only a TC factor but also role and industry is better.
Generally better to tell the truth. In this case, it shows you’re an honest person and made a purely financial decision for yourself, anyone can respect that. It also shows the company A what other competitive offers look like, they at least gain that small piece of information from your candidate process
Just say job market is picked up and moving forward with strong offer which matches my expectations
You shouldn’t sacrifice your financial well-being just to not inconvenience a company. Because that’s all that this will be for company A, an inconvenience. For you the decision has major financial consequences… do what is most financial beneficial to you and apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused. Any reasonable person/company will understand

Like the idea, I assume it’s after joining A though?
