Fucked up life rant. A year ago today I was gainfully employed with Netflix making 250k living in LA…life was great I enjoyed my work and liked “most” of my co workers I had a cool manager and he was down to show me the rope as I had taken over the team I’d joined as an IC…well then I was assigned a new manager as a result of a merger and he was the complete opposite of the manager I had before…very old school…chain of command boomer type of guy… He found out I wasn’t 30 yet and decided that I wasn’t old enough to be in management (even with years of relevant exp and a masters degree) and the bullshit began…he gaslighted me..added me to meeting agendas w/o letting me know…added people to my projects then told me I had “too many cooks in the kitchen” told me I wasn’t “aligned with Netflix culture” because I asked for a raise to 265k got mad at me because I helped a person on my team get a promotion because “the rest of the team was burnt out” and ultimately fired me because I told a woman a male vendor not responding to you her questions wasn’t an indication of misogyny 🤷🏿♂️ which according to him was an indication of “poor judgment” 😩 Now I work for the worlds shittiest startup Only got 4k in savings Im still paying back the loan I took out to take the job at Netflix and I’ve been denied by Reddit, Amazon, Google and other startups and most of my extra money is spent on suicide prevention counseling. Hopefully things get better soon. Let this be a cautionary tale…as soon as shit feels off LEAVE! Happy Anniversary to me! 🤡 🤡 🤡
I’m really sorry on what you went through. I’m happy to connect to see how I can be of help.
I’ve already left LA.
The fuck would you take out a loan to get a job making 250k Reddit, Amazon, and Google aren't startups. They're enterprise tech. They probably don't want to admit that.
Just curious. Not judging. Why did you have to take a loan to take the job at Netflix? Why only 4k in savings if you were at Netflix for a bit?
Took the job as an IC so they only gave 3k in assistance to move cross country. Had to use all my money to get out of LA lease and move back across the country.

Definitely following this one now
I am very sorry to hear that and empathize with you. I know Yelp isn't nearly as great in terms of pay as Netflix, but I am happy to refer you here. The company has been fortunately growing, despite the current state of the economy, and there's many openings for all types of roles — IC and management. The culture is super chilled, toxicity isn't rampant but rare. You'll be a high performer with 35 hours of work per week and have enough time on the side to try things for your future. And pay is definitely good (lower than tier 1/faang of course but still good). Dm me if you want help. All the best. :)
Reading your post makes me want to be your friend :-). You are an empathetic guy
Thank you so much for this response definitely feels good to know that there are still some good folks in our industry
Life is always a surprise with ups and downs. I learnt it the hard way. Save some and enjoy some. Don't attach to anything seriously. Always think nothing is going to last forever.
You fucked up your life by getting assigned to a shitty manager? Why did you take a loan to work at Netflix? Do you know why you get rejected? Sounds like you had solid set of Engineering skills even if you weren't the best manager. With a masters and Netflix pedigree, there should still be options for you. Are you just shitty at interviews? Were you doing shitty because you were depressed about getting fired? Interviewing is a skill you learn, whether management or IC. You have tons of potential, fuck your old boss, you'll get through this.
Something doesn't add up. You make 250k. But you only 2k in savings?
Made..past tense I make 105 now

How the f*ck did 450k c*nts apply for H-1B after so many layoffs?
What loan you took for job at Netflix?
I took out a loan to cover moving expenses. I joined as an IC so they only offered 3k for a cross country move. The rest was on me to come up with.
