For Amazon it is the last mile org and hybrid 3 days/week in Seattle. For juniper square the offer is fully remote. I get stock options but not sure how to value them, and it’s paper money. I am thinking the work life balance is significantly better. Not sure which is better for career progression. I’d like to apply to google after 2 years for L4. Having a tough time deciding. Want to specify that the Amazon offer is definitely a lot higher, but it isn’t that much higher if you include the stock options at juniper square, I just don’t know how to value the options since it’s a private company..
Don't come here, run while you still can
Why
Terrible org
Last time I heard that org was a dumpster fire. Do you need that liquid equity comp so bad that you are willing to go to a shitty Amazon office 3 days a week and deal with its well renowned culture? I don't know about Juniper's culture though.
Yeah apparently juniper has good culture according to the reviews on blind but no one from there ever posts on here.. probably a green flag 😂 Do you think I will progress my career at Amazon quicker? I’m ok with working more and bad WLB if I get paid more and am actually progressing in my career faster, but I heard that a lot of the work in that org is ops and on call work which won’t progress my career faster, in which case I’d prefer remote and work life balance
There is only a small prospect of that at L5 level. Even with all stars aligning and you working your ass off, you are going to take 2 years to get to L6. Like most others there high chance of ending up in a sorry pip post. If your mgr puts you on focus, your promo will be delayed if not impossible. Yes, most orgs nowadays have really boring work, and not much to learn. Instead enjoy your life, work at a small company with less toxicity and it may open up better opportunities as it grows. 2 years later, interview again and hopefully you will have better choices and can get a 0.5 uplevel. I don't see a reason to join Amazon esp in such a bad market. If you are not going into a comfort zone and striving to advance your career you will whether you are at a startup or at a big company
Since Amazon is 3 days RTO(with high possibility of 5 days RTO in 2024), you'll end up spending much more money out of pocket. I'd highly suggest not to join Amazon. Even if you get a good team, Amazon policy changes and RTO won't be good for your mental health. You'll probably not get much time to prepare for Google as well in future.
Do not join Last Mile
What about AWS?
YMMV but generally Amazon is not a good company to join. The general sentiment with layoffs, PIP, RTO, and overall loss of trust in leaders from middle management to the very top.
If you are going to join Amazon at least negotiate heavily. 260 is too low for L5 external hire. Ask for 300K at least
Is there a risk of them rescinding the offer?
I used to work in the last mile org till recently. It’s alright to survive for 1-2 years. There is a lack of rewards for the effort you put in. Don’t count on promotion, although it’s hypothetically possible.
Cool I just want to survive 2 years.. how was the on call and how many hours per week did you work?
Wlb is just normal. Main issue is culture. A lot of fighting and squabbles. No clear direction or leadership. Often working on vanity projects or projects that get axed after 6 months.
