Doing real engineering is fulfilling. Versus moving a button around or optimizing some stupid ad.
agree with that sentiment - but as someone who has an EE background that now works in software, you are leaving out a lot... there is plenty more going on in software that is as complex or more complex than much of "real" engineering
Software is not engineering tbh
Which field, if you don’t mind me asking?
I like what i do and hate sitting in front of a screen for hours
The sad thing is I still spend 95% of my time behind a screen
MCO’s don’t build themselves. CAD doesn’t have a physical aspect to it….
The hardware I work on is a value add to society.
How do you think it’s a value add?
Mostly cause you can see your product go to something like a server or a car electronics that will be into the market 4-5 yrs down the line.
Too much knowledge churn in software. Need to be on your toes to be up to date as swe.
Is there any way to break into the hardware field without going back to college?
I'd imagine it'd be fairly hard. Some companies like Amazon have started offering hardware apprenticeships where you "don't need experience" but there are only a few positions and hundreds of applicants
Are those roles fairly useful in the future when finding other jobs? I’m sure having Amazon is a big plus but doesn’t make up for getting a bachelors
We're interested in actual engineering, science and technology.
Personally I enjoy rtl more than software languages
Same. Hardware has a lot of depth to it, making circuits means you have to think about stuff like power, current, area, timing, manufacturing complexity, etc. Unless you're in compilers or some sort of area with depth, most of software doesn't get that nitty about optimizations and secondary effects. Especially not CRUD stuff.

Grinding leetcode sucks ass
Would you move if you got past the LC preparation?
Right now no too many layoffs, maybe one day?
