With pure hardware system design experience in resume, Will I get interview calls from top companies with just Leetcoding? Or need Masters? I like to code and wish to jump. Also if got a job, should I start from fresh grad salary YOE 4(1@US) TC 200K
Leetcode by far. Don’t waste your time/money
For 3 years where you worked?
India, Hardware design
You moved to US internally with Apple?
Nah come up some software experience on resume and get senior role. Tell them you made automated testing software on the HW your built. It's mostly about your ability to Leetcode, not much about your experience. Skip MS, you don't need it.
How would he survive in a senior role with just interviewing (leetcode) skills? True he doesn’t need a masters but going for a senior role is something else.
My degree was in mechanical engineering. I had about 3 yoe and did a little bit of coding on the job, but mostly taught myself on my own time. I just wrote my resume to emphasize the coding aspects and got good at LC and I landed a mid level SWE job
Getting the interview is the hardest part, referrals help a lot
Looks like you were self taught. How did you navigate in the mid level position? I guess that would have been the first time you had experience with a massive codebase. What prepared you for the job and how long did it take you to ramp up?
I am self taught and it is my first experience working directly with a big code base. I started in this position only 6 months ago so it’s still pretty new to me. My team maintains a massive legacy code base so I’m not an expert in it by any means, but I’d consider myself ramped up in that I can handle most tasks independently. A lot of it came down to just having a really helpful team that was happy to mentor me and give me time and space to ramp up.
Overall I feel like mid level is doable for a newbie as long as you have some tech experience, have a good team, and are willing to put the work in. Senior is a different story though and I would be very intimidated to jump into a role like that.

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Leetcode, you just need to get the interview. With Apple on your resume, and well written bullets, you'll get through the recruiter screen at least. Then it is up to your interviewing skills
That is what I am worried upon. For Hardware roles, I know I can get into any other company for hardware, but not sure if my resume gets screened for software roles. But, I am confident to prepare LC such that if get a opportunity, try to give best
Polish your resume and start applying. That would be the path of least resistance
