Has Facebook ever asked for your comp expectations?

Has FB asked for your comp expectations before? If so, how did you answer? If not, how would you?

I give them a range based on what’s fair in the market. Now that they can’t ask you how much you currently make, it’s much easier. Do not let them give you the first number though.

Dmp is right. California law now prohibits employers from asking what your salary is. They can however ask you what your expectations are, and I usually tell them “well, that’s something I would ask you. What’s the range for this role all the way from the lower end to the highest?“ and by California law, whenever a candidate requests a range, the employer must respond with the range.

Good advice. I think the only caveat is, they are not obligated to give range if role or team haven’t been define yet.

Will this be applicable when California based companies such as google are hiring seattle based candidates for the Seattle office?

Always, I just respond with my expectations.

You don’t seem to be very experienced. How many years experience do you have? Giving out your range means you have shown your hand. Always get them to give you the range, which in California, is the law if you request it

In my third decade of working. Not sure why no one understands how to negotiate anymore but starting from a position of strength is most often a good thing. If you admit you do not understand your value you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Good luck!

They asked my expected comp and I just said I really don't know at the moment. They ended up coming back with an E4 offer which I felt was fair and I ended up accepting. I didn't end up negotiating the numbers, but I don't feel like they low balled me.

They asked me my comp (before that law) and it was a shitty negotiation experience. Every other part of my FB interview/work experience has been better than the comp negotiation 😂

How did you end up comp wise and what did you say?
