Has Twitter changed or is this a moral panic?
Within hours of Elon walking into Twitter HQ with his sink, I’ve saw so many complaints from people who said they could “detect the change to Twitter” already and that it was worse. They claimed to see more hate and more policy violations. My BS detector went way off because I find it very difficult to believe that substantive changes to content moderation and harassment enforcement have gone into effect so far, least of all on the very same day that Elon started working there. Are people being dramatic or was there actually a change? This is separate from the employment changes. I’m talking about an actual policy or algorithm change that has been put into effect. #Twitter #Elon #Algorithm

There was like a 500 fold increase in N-bombs on the site the day the acquisition closed. Not sure if that's died down already but it sounds like he shut down most of the content moderation team, so the 4chan sewage stream will probably overwhelm them for good soon enough. Sigh.

I'm so furious that you and your colleagues are experiencing not only a layoff but performed in the most inhuman, savage way. I've seen (and experienced) it done badly but this is next level. I'm also speechless at the fact that Musk can effectively get away with what he's doing and nothing seemingly appears to be able to stop him. But the market will respond how the market always responds - rewarding shitty behaviour if it protects the $$$ and therefore reinforcing it. There is - literally - no excuse for this. We need to take the world back from these assholes.

This isn’t a fact check. It’s just their new context thing. It actually doesn’t dispute what he said at all. It just backs it up with an article.
Except for the fact that the linked article provides no evidence that civil rights groups are doing anything besides merely mentioning potential moderation issues and asking advertisers to consider what kind of content they want their brands to be associated with given Elon's own statements about the kind of environment he wants on Twitter (at least before he realized the financial implications of turning it into a Nazi free-for-all). The fact that he immediately shitcanned most of content moderation makes his intentions pretty clear. There's no mention of calls for boycotts or any kind of significant pressure whatsoever. Weird for a self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist" to cry about people exercising their right to free speech because he doesn't like that nobody is buying his lies.
I have been seeing a lot more MAGA bots. Weird divisive things are always trending like #pelosigate and #liathomas (trans swimmer) and when I click to see why it’s trending there are similar texts posted by anonymous accounts with <50 followers. Twitter is going to the dogs
It changed because the trolls are testing the limits and posting more bigoted content to see if they can get away with it. So even if moderation is the same, the bigoted content increased. People are posting the word n****r just because.
Except the moderation isn't the same because his third official act as CEO was to shitcan 75% of content moderators along with anyone else whose job it was to make sure that Twitter isn't a Nazi shithole filled with CSAM or making it usable, safer, or better for users.
