I'm guessing these kind of people wouldn't be lurking here, but worth a shot. I'm thinking in terms of the FI part of FIRE, doing a job that you're passionate about without stressing about the money (if your passion is genuinely software engineering, more power to you). Lowkey thinking of quitting the rat race and becoming a self-employed piano teacher or try to grow a YouTube channel or something after building up close to around 1M~ NW. YOE 2 TC 250
I’ve been working on building a non tech business for my post FI life. Aspects of the business still use tech, but I don’t have any ptsd from tech so engaging with those parts isn’t a problem for me.
Hi yes we have friends who moved to teaching , not lucrative monetarily but they are happier
FIRE as soon as travel restrictions lifted
In the process of doing it! For me, I want to have all expenses accounted for & then some before I jump ship. As of now, I’m making ~$3k / month in side hustles, but I want to hit ~$10k. Would recommend starting to build additional income streams now if you’re looking to leave soon.
Nice! What’s your side hustle? I’ve been trading covered calls generating a couple hundred dollars every week consistently and growing.
haha that’s the way to go. I run a vacation rental business on the side & am trying to grow a social media presence. I also sell puts @ covered calls for a few hundred a week 😅
I know a couple people who switched from tech to teaching. One was a former SDE-to-VP who moved from a major tech company since she'd made enough and was passionate about teaching at high schools even if it meant having to start from the bottom. This isn't the easiest path, you have to spend 1+ years studying and paying tuition, potentially longer based on whether you have a degree in your target subject(s), and be open to any substitute / contract positions that are available for the first several years unless you're teaching a subject that has many more positions than available teachers.
Yeah it's called retirement. Lots of folks do it
Pretty sure the majority of Americans are not retiring in their 30s
Majority of Americans do not go around hopping careers every 10 years either. Wait for the midlife crisis at least
