While other places may pip you but everyone is given an opportunity to course correct and firing you is not a goal for manager's promotion. At Amazon L7 celebrate when you give up & can't take it anymore. They'll keep on extending focus (pre-pip) indefinitely for whatever reasons even if you deliver on your tasks & you won't even get the clear goals for focus sprint unless you ask. There is probably a more logical explanation. more gaps continue to surface for someone your level and they are just trying to make sure you are meeting expectations before taking you out ?
Why not share the gaps with the employee then or tell them explicitly they're still in focus!
