I was wondering if this is a common practice. I don’t know if hiring managers or recruiters ask for proof for the other offers.
I’d only do that with a shitty company I didn’t really want to work at and thought I’d be able to get fuck you money from. Like Oracle.
I did that without knowing I don't have an offer: I had only a verbal one which at the end didn't happen. But it sure thing helped negotiate other offers
Oh nice, so I guess the other company didn’t ask for proof for the offer and just took your word for it?
I've never lied about it but I've never had a company ask for proof of a competing offer
And are you prepared if they call your bluff? If you don't have another offer and they don't meet your demands are you willing to walk away?
If they don’t increase it, then i would take it if I didn’t had any other options
Then they will know (or at least suspect) that you are lying.
But this is why i always have a number that, if put on the table, I’d leave my current employer for. Everyone has a price. Everyone.
Yes very common. Those who voted no are either lying or stupid
They'll want proof of offer. Do you actually think it's their first rodeo? Once they catch you on your lie, they'll cut you or make you look like a blathering idiot...which you would be. 😏
I never did. Whenever I have negotiated for large companies, they always asked for proof. Never lie. You will be screwed and blacklisted.

Oh that's brilliant :)
I’m surprised more people don’t do that. I guess there’s ethics involved but at the same time if you don’t have another offer, the hiring manager/recruiter is probably low balling you.
Surprised more people don't lie while trying to get into a company that they want? Way to earn trust there. If you are asking for a slightly better offer, you can do that just talking out what compensation you are targeting. If you claim to have a much higher competing offer, why wouldn't you get asked for proof
