I strongly feel that having video on during calls does more harm than good. Personally, I focus less on the presentation or what's being said when there are faces and despite not being vain when my video is on I compulsively check my self view very often. In addition, eye strain in office workers is already a problem and I feel having some calls where people chat while walking or lying down to give their back a rest could be very beneficial. Lastly, video connectivity takes up internet bandwidth and costs server resources, not to mention impact on the environment from electricity consumption. Overall, the whole thing seems really unnecessary to me. Do you relate? The pros of having video on are that you can read nonverbal cues and gesticulation and connect with people better by remembering their faces + some people claim that it keeps employees focused, although recent studies suggest otherwise. Interested in your thoughts.
Yeah I have to look like I’m paying attention and nod a couple times with video on 😔
Turn self view off
I can't! What if my face looks weird or dumb in the call.
I like to have the calls with the hot chicks, video is a plus being wfh constantly
This is probably a big reason for returning to the office to some older dudes wanting some way to hang out with intelligent young women.
I’m never going back to office, I’d have to move at this point. Remote for life, camera on unless it’s a large group call and I am not engaged/paying attention.
We are the transitional generation for video calls. Yes, it is uncomfortable but this will pass. Kids these days do FaceTime so effortlessly, and communicate better (than those who relied on texting). Many of the cons you are thinking about are transitional.
Kids communicate better 💯🤌🏿 no cap 🙌🏿 fam
No-one is conducting business calls over FaceTime.
We do daily video meeting. And the company is pushing us to go back
I speak a non-native language during all these calls so I like getting to see people's lips move. But with everyone in the office wearing masks, we lose that; might as well not have video.
I have so many meetings and by about hour 3 on a video call I’m losing focus from just sitting there. I’ve been told I’m “looking around too much” so I focus more on looking like I’m paying attention than actually being able to pay attention.
Nobody in my team turns their camera on lol
It's not healthy. You're sitting at your desk staring at a screen at 2 feet for the entire day. It will cause eye problems. In real life meetings you look around the room at different distances.

What do you have a black belt in?
I feel like I'm gonna disappoint you big time with this one but BLK in my username is for my employer BlackRock and BLT is for bacon lettuce tomato sandwich. I'm sorry lol
Does Blackrock pay well? Sorry don’t mean to derail. A recruiter hit me up.
