Car accident at my fault, how to avoid paying the damages?
So since about February, the Grindr backend seems to have been an absolute disaster. From what I can tell as a user, they migrated to keeping chats stored in the cloud as opposed locally on the phone. With this, the app barely works anymore. Notifications don’t show. Chats barely send. The latest skirmish is now the Facebook login has been disabled, so users have been kicked out of their accounts and can’t get back in. There is a blog post saying they are trying to fix, but don’t give specifics. It’s been like this for over a week. I guess explain to me like I’m 10 what has gone wrong with this app this year from an engineering perspective. Is the Facebook lockout going to be permanent? I’m a developer, but these are all technologies I’ve never had to work with.
Grindr had a massive layoff like 5 6 months ago. That's what happened to it.
I know the whole union busting and forced return to office in Chicago fiasco. But that happened over the summer. Like why did it all of a sudden get unusable?
Corporate culture is one thing, but I would honestly just want a honest case study of the teetering house of cards that is the backend.
“Grindr backend”
I just interviewed at Grindr, and the people issues are real.
Curious if you have a sense of wlb? People issues mean shortage of people or problematic folks?
They are rebuilding the team, but didn't seem to be looking for heros so I guess is WLB is ok. You should reach out to them.
Using Grindr can definitely make your backend a disaster.
Ubderappreciated joke haha
