Wondering what head of product for different sized companies make. Anyone have any insight for what salaries for this position are for 0-50 sized companies? 50-100? 100-200? Etc. Etc.
Some comparisons from offers I’ve seen: 500k base, 25% bonus, 3-5M TC with options (if private) or 2-3M RSU if public. This will be in pre IPO or scaling post IPO
Fork me. That would be great…
Also to be clear this is CPO or equivalent role.
What is head of product ? It’s such a random LinkedIn title people add to mask their real titles.
somewhere between director and vp, depends on the company
Exactly!
the thing about startups is that they vary WILDLY. I’ve seen directors make anywhere between 275 and 400k, but it’s such a wild market out there that i really don’t know that you’ll be able to find trustworthy data like you would for a FAANG company. I mean, even at Amazon there’s L7 Product folks making anywhere from 350 to 700k 🤷
250-300 base, the equity will depend a lot on the Series. 600-700k TC would be reasonable for a later stage startup.
I know some peeps that are internally Sr. PM but put “head of product” on their LinkedIn. Kinda silly, they don’t even have an engineering team. They try to influence but people just laugh at them. I guess it’s an inferiority complex?
Its the same at our company too. People with like 4 years experience or less call themselves “head of …”. Bullshit titles.
Early stage startup, 15 people, 185K base 3.1 percent of company' as equity
Yes, head of product BS. Also, fuck all of us PMs with this ridiculously "lead" postfix. Everyone on blah blah blah PM lead. The person is an l4 or l5 two days on a job. No reports three engineers, but they are the PM lead
Google titles are BS. Other places actually work
These are not really official titles, just people writing whatever they want
Used to be CPO in 7k employee subsidiary of publicly traded company $800k TC half base half RSUs. 200 reports
What level did you join google at?
I was an L6 at my last company. About to join a startup of 100 people and my comp is low 300s for VP/Head of Product. Will be running entire product org reporting to CEO.
Good! Which company were you there before ? Amazon?
For 0-50 when my title was head of product I was 220 TC and 2% of the company. Arr was about 150 mil and we were going for series a when I made he swap. Ceo and I didn’t get along in the end and we agreed it was no hard feelings me moving on
Also for reference dev was almost completely offshore Ukraine. About 9 devs
About how long were you there? Mine was similar but fell prey to the typical first product hire BS. https://jasonevanish.com/2019/04/28/second-1st-pm/
