There is a gap between me leaving my current employer and joining new one (Aug 31- Sep 3). I know that August 31st is covered by my current employer. Is there any way to get health insurance for the other 2 days? Can I join my spouse's employer plan? Any help is highly appreciated
you should be able to COBRA your old plan. If it’s too painful to do the documentation to fill out. Assuming you don’t have an accident or major surgery in the gap just throw the forms away. If you have accident then file the paperwork. Your wife’s employee won’t deal with that BS of covering you for 4 days while you switch jobs.
COBRA is retroactive. You can activate coverage if needed in the unlikely event that you need to see a doctor during the gap.
What happens in case if my current employer shutsdown meantime?
It probably didn’t matter if your company shuts down. Just hope your companies insurance company doesn’t shut down.
If it shuts down, you lose coverage. Same with your new employer, of course...
You won't die in 2 days.
Are you sure? All you need is a second.
People spend years with no insurance. I spent 2 months and only had to pay 300 for a lab test. I am surprised some folks can't even live 2 days without insurance. I mean, stay at home if you are that worried. Honestly with that kind of risk intolerance one shouldn't even be living. (Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone, it just sounds ridiculous to me to make such a big deal out of it)
