I’ll be starting a contract role in July. It offers health insurance but there’s a 60 day waiting period. Anyone got recommendations for health insurance to cover that gap?
Keep in mind that cobra can be mad expensive. So plan your time/appointments, and budget accordingly
COBRA provides 18 months of insurance. You have 60 days to retroactively sign up for it after leaving your current employer's plan, so if the gap is 60 days or less many people don't sign up unless they incur an expense. It will be expensive, for example my last COBRA offering was about $6,500/year, but it provides the same coverage you had at your employer. Leaving your job is also a qualifying event for Obamacare, so check out the marketplace rates for your age and area.
You can always not get the coverage and within 60 days if something happens you can choose to elect COBRA however the premium will be higher since there will no longer be employer contributions. I focus more on life insurance but have an independent health insurance partner I can connect you with who can show you more options. I’d suggest avoiding short term supplementals and medical sharing plans.
Cobra provides at least 60 days of retroactive insurance after your last employment day. Meaning that you can sign up only if you need to visit a doc
Awesome good to know. Thank you!
